KINGSTON, Rhode Island – June 3, 2021 – Do you have a diseased plant, a weed you just can’t identify, a question about when to replant seedlings, or any other gardening question? The University of Rhode Island master gardeners now have another way to provide answers to these questions and more.
Master Gardeners and the URI Cooperative Extension have launched the Virtual Radio Hour to provide answers to questions about home and community gardening. At 10 a.m. on the first Saturday of every month, a panel of expert gardeners will meet over Webex for one hour to answer questions from local gardeners.
The program is a continuation of the URI Master Gardener Hotline, in which master gardeners have been working for more than 20 years, who provide answers to questions about gardening by phone and e-mail.
“Amid the challenges of the pandemic this year, the URI Master Gardener has expanded our public education offerings to make them more relevant and accessible to the wider Rhode Island community,” said Francesca Gallo, Research Fellow at the URI Cooperative Extension. “While the Master Gardener Hotline will remain one of our key community resources, we hope Virtual Radio Hour will provide another platform for members of the public to collect and receive answers to a wide range of gardening-related questions. As with the hotline, Radio Hour members will experience this personal connection with master gardeners, but they will be able to do it together with others. “
Gardeners are encouraged to ask their questions in advance when registering for each month’s virtual radio hour or ask questions live in the event chat. Experts will also answer questions commonly asked through the Master Gardener Hotline and the Cooperative Extension URI on social media.
Due to the 4th of Julyth On the holiday weekend of July 10, there will be a Virtual Radio Hour in July.
