Nottingham Forest are moving closer to a deal with James Garner to bring the Manchester United player back to the City Ground after his successful loan to the Championship club last season.
Garner, who is concurrently negotiating a new deal with United, is expected to enter another loan agreement with Forest with the prospect of regular football in the main team.
If all goes to plan, Garner could be in line to play for Forest in the Carabao Cup match at home against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Tuesday.
Chris Houghton’s side, which finished 17th last season, lost their first three league games, but Garner’s arrival immediately lifted the spirits after becoming a crowd favorite during his previous stint at the club. Forest, Athletic understandsspent most of the summer focusing on it as a priority signing.
The 20-year-old impressed Forest last season, scoring four goals in 19 starts and one substitution under Houghton after being loaned in January.
