Nancy Almodovar is arguably one of Houston’s busiest entrepreneurs. As CEO Nan & Company Real Estate, she operates the city’s largest real estate agency, which is the exclusive Houston-based subsidiary of Christie’s International Real Estate. Nancy balances being the lead founding woman with being a mom of two, so optimizing her schedule and daily routine is often critical to getting all of her tasks done in a day.

We reached out to Nancy to learn about the days in the life of one of Houston’s top real estate executives and the most important habits she follows every day to be successful.

Get up early and meditate

Like many of the world’s top entrepreneurs and business leaders, Nancy gets up early and takes the time to prepare for success before the end of the day. Then she needs time to contact her family and prepare a to-do list.

  • 4:45 am – Get up
  • 5 am – I have my first cup of coffee and a 20 minute meditation. Meditation has become a huge part of my routine and I believe it is a MUST for a successful day.
  • 5 am – 5:30 am – Coffee with my husband (every morning!) To catch up and collect my thoughts for the rest of the day.
  • 5:30 – 6:50 – I’m working on my to-do list for the day, as well as the calls and emails I need to make.
  • 6:50 am – Wake up the children, dress them, get dressed, put on makeup for the day.
  • 7:45 am – My husband and I will take our children to school. As soon as they are settled, I go to the office.

Take the time to communicate with your team

As a leader, Nancy spends a significant portion of her time talking to the people on her team as well as her clients. She relies on an executive assistant to help streamline all the details of her busy schedule, and she sets aside time specifically to contact a number of her employees and check them out.

  • 8:00 AM – I go to the office and make a second cup of coffee, which I usually wash down with juice.
  • 8:30 AM – I meet with my executive assistant to go through the day and discuss what we want to achieve. We have so many projects now that I have daily to-do lists that we want to complete.
  • 9 AM – I meet with my administrative staff in the office to make sure everything goes smoothly and everything is on the same page.
  • 10 A.M – I start calling my agents (Nanfam!) To find out their lists and work on new developments that we are working on together. I love checking my agents every single day.
  • 12 pm – I have a quick lunch and a few more appointments
  • 14:45 “Take my children wherever I am and leave them at home. If they don’t have classes, I will continue to work from my home office or go to a meeting if scheduled.

Take time for health and family

Nancy sets aside time in her schedule every day to keep her balance between workout and family.

  • 17:00 – 18:00 – Workout
  • 6:30 PM – Lunch
  • 19:00 – 20:00 – Mom’s time, dinner, bath, put the children to bed and talk about your day.
  • 20:00 – 21:00 – I keep track of missed emails and calls.

Follow a daily routine before bed.

Many successful entrepreneurs talk about the importance of their nightly bedtime routine to help them relax and prepare for success the next day. Nancy ends her day with the same time spent grooming and recharging the next day ahead.

  • 21:00 – 21:30 – Skin care
  • 21:30 – 22:00 – I read something interesting, and then it goes out!
