19-year-old Arsenal goalkeeper Tom Smith was loaned to Welling United earlier this month, and he immediately jumped into action with the team at first. The teenager made his friendly debut on the same day he signed the contract, and four days later he was back on the team.
However, since then he has not played for either team in their two competitive matches, with a Welling United fan and reporter. Mark Doig The Daily Cannon reports that the goalkeeper is absent due to injury.
Initially, it was rather disturbing to see Welling United inviting Murphy Mahoney to replace the goalkeeper. But their game over the weekend was attended by Doe Smith, who attended their weekend game and told Doig that he would be back in two weeks.
Smith is not the first recipient of a contract from Arsenal to be unavailable for matches this month. Matt Smith has already passed involuntary absence with Covid-19, and Jordi Osei-Tutu hamstring retreat…
Then Nikolai Möller was another absent for unknown reasons for Victoria Cologne this weekend, so this is another one to watch out for.
The good news is that Matt Smith returned to Doncaster Rovers over the weekend and it doesn’t look like Tom Smith will be away for long.
