The Texas-based real estate developer and TV host first appeared Tuesday morning in an Orange County courtroom. sexual assault allegationsincluding the allegation that he raped an unconscious 16-year-old girl at his country house in Laguna Beach.
Lawyers representing 63-year-old William Hutchinson pleaded not guilty on his behalf on one count of raping an unconscious man and five counts of sexual assault during a hearing in a Newport Beach courtroom.
Hutchinson, who is also facing sexual assault charges against another teenage girl from Texas, has been released on $ 100,000 bail. He spoke little during the hearing, standing next to his lawyers and answering “yes, ma’am,” when asked by Orange County Superior Court Justice Karen Robinson if he understood the terms of the protection order that prohibited him from contacting the alleged victims.
Hutchinson declined to comment on the charges after the hearing, telling reporters, “Oh, no, have a nice day, no thanks,” as he got into his car outside the courthouse. Jacqueline Goodman, one of his lawyers, added: “I never say that, but he is innocent.”
Hutchinson is the founder of Dunhill Partners, a prominent Texas-based development firm that operates retail space across the country. He gained further notoriety by appearing on the Lifetime series Marrying Millions, which covered his relationship with a woman 40 years his junior.
Orange County prosecutors say Hutchinson brought two 16-year-old girls with him on several trips to his Laguna Beach residence.
In April, prosecutors said Hutchinson raped one of the teenagers and committed four acts of sexual violence against her. On a second visit in May, Hutchinson is accused of sexually assaulting a second girl.
Hutchinson has already been charged with raping a teenage girl in Texas after prosecutors allege he gave her and other minors alcohol. He previously denied Texas allegations, telling TMZ that he was “incapable of assault, sexual or otherwise.”
Alex Canney, a lawyer representing the alleged rape victim, said the fact that Hutchinson is a reality TV star and famous developer makes the allegations “more troubling.”
“(She) was sexually assaulted by this man, whom she respected very much,” Canny said.
Kanney declined to comment further on the alleged crimes, but indicated that he appreciates that the district attorney’s office takes the allegations seriously.
“This is a great example that if you come forward, you will be believed,” said Canny. “So many people hide for years, decades or the rest of their lives. There is justice, there is healing. “
If convicted on Orange County charges, Hutchinson faces up to eight years in state prison and two and a half years in county jail.
