SUNFORD, Florida – Seminole County is committing $ 1.6 million in federal COVID-19 relief money to help homeowners struggling during the coronavirus pandemic.

Funding is available to approximately 300 eligible households facing financial hardship due to the pandemic and have applied through the County. Emergency Mortgage Assistance Application Portal… Grants can be used for mortgages and utilities without having to be returned.

County leaders say they want to make it as easy as possible to apply for funds, so they have opened an office in Sanford where homeowners can get help if needed.

“We want to get money as quickly as possible because we know people are struggling and we don’t want to sit on any federal dollars that can be spent in the community helping people,” said Carrie Longsworth, Community Assistance Department. Seminole County Manager.

Homeowners living in Sanford cannot apply for funding through Seminole County because Sanford has a similar program.

Sanford homeowners must apply through the city.

The application portal will remain open until 500 applications have been submitted. Applicants who need help accessing a computer or scanning and downloading required documents can visit the Emergency Rent / Mortgage Application Assistance Center at 520 West Lake Mary Blvd. in Sanford, Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 3:00 pm.
