Ricky Fowler was in real danger of missing another scene on the PGA tour. But a rally ahead of nine on Friday in the second round of the 2021 Rocket Mortgage Classic saved Fowler and allowed him to spend the weekend.
Fowler hasn’t had his best season on the PGA Tour. He’s on the FedEx Cup bubble, ranking 118th on this list this week. At this point, his hopes for the postseason are sorely needed.
He has already missed eight cuts from 20 launches this year. In fact, he missed a cut in three of his last five tournaments until this week.
This went unnoticed mainly due to the way he performed in two tournaments where he made a cut. After missing out on Wells Fargo and Byron Nelson, Fowler finished 8th at the PGA Championship and 11th at the Memorial. However, he missed last week’s cut at Travelers…
Fowler had a pretty quiet round on Thursday at Detroit Golf Club this week. He made two birds and 16 pairs on his way to the round with a score of 2 or less than 70. After 18 holes he finished 56th and had to do something on Friday to make sure he was coming to weekend.
Fowler took a little time to get things going on Friday.
He parried the first hole, then scored the second to get 1-less in his round. After the Parsa in third and fourth, he scored number five with a great chip-in, getting 2 under on Friday and 4 under in the tournament.
Fowler also hit six and eighth holes on his front nine. He made 32 hits, leaving him in the 6-hole tournament and in good shape with the nine holes.
His back nine was quiet, with eight pairs and one scarecrow. This happened on hole 13 par 4, where Fowler drew his ball to the left, was forced to serve and was unable to get up and down 100 yards for par.
As a result, Fowler was left with 3 rounds below 69 and a ticket for the weekend. He is just five shots behind the leaders at the moment, so anything is possible for the five-time PGA Tour winner.
