Report: Club faces final hurdle to sign Liverpool player, terms of withdrawal from loan agreed

According to Lancashire PostPreston North End have agreed with Liverpool to loan defender Sepp van den Berg.

The Championship side had successful negotiations with Jurgen Klopp The Anfield natives discussed a deal last week for the 19-year-old. Now Preston is facing one final hurdle to close the Van den Berge deal, giving the green light for a comeback.

Van den Berg moved to Deepdale on loan on the day of the January transfer window deadline. He carved out a regular role for himself under Alex Neil and then Frankie McAvoy, but now there are other suggestions.

At least four teams from other champions are interested in renting Van den Berg for next season. The center midfielder also has the final say in his offseason club selection, despite the fact that Liverpool agreement with Preston.

The Lilywhites got the first waiver after agreeing to the terms of the second loan, provided that he agreed to join. McAvoy’s side could close the deal by the end of the week if the Dutch defender gives full clarity.

Van den Berg, returning to Deepdale next season, may see him reunite with two former teammates. Preston also wants to close a new loan deal for Daniel Iversen of Leicester City and move permanently for Liam Lindsey from Stoke.

Liverpool and Van den Berg must wait for other offers

While Liverpool have agreed with Preston on the terms of a second loan for Van den Berg, both must await other offers. The defender is showing an interest in other clubs that may be better destinations for the former U19 national team player.

Van den Berg may have started 15 from 16 played for Preston, but only two of his exits were in the central half of the field. Instead, he was moved from his natural position to right-back and right-midfielder.

But other clubs may see Van den Berg more as a contract that will improve their base. This is where Liverpool wanted him to play in their U23 and where his future Anfield is. And this is where they should prioritize the next loan period spent on it.
