Rent, Mortgage and Utilities Program Available – Corridor News

TThe City of San Marcos is urging residents affected by the COVID-19 pandemic to apply for utilities, rent and mortgage assistance through a recently funded program. The San Marcos City Council has provided $ 567,825 in Grant to Fund the Community Development and Coronavirus Response Unit (CDBG-CV) for the assistance program, including program design and administration.

Funding for the program is available through a partnership between City, Community Action, Inc. Central Texas and the Blanco Regional Recovery Team (BR3T) to help individuals and families overcome the financial hardships caused by the pandemic. Assistance is provided until all funding for the program has been exhausted.

Eligible residents can get up to three months on mortgages, rent and utilities. Applicants requesting funds must:

  • Live within the city limits of San Marcos
  • Have a notice of late utility bills, rent, or eviction OR confirm that if you do not receive rental assistance, you or someone in your household will have to move to an unsafe or unhealthy living environment, such as a cohabitation or temporary refuge.
  • Confirm that no duplicate aid was received in the same months

The applicant or family member must experience at least one of the following financial implications associated with COVID-19:

  • Decrease / loss of income
  • Increased costs
  • Eligibility for unemployment benefits

Household income must be at least 80% of the Austin Round Rock median income. For example, the eligible income level for a family of four is $ 79,100.
