Ex-Iowa TV host hopes her age bias lawsuit will change TV news
As a prominent reporter and presenter for one of Iowa’s largest local television stations, Sonia Heitshusen was known for her diligence in investigating injustice and prosecuting powerful people. A year after WHO Des Moines abruptly fired her, she turned those skills to her former employer in a lawsuit challenging what she calls the widespread practice of firing older women employees because of their looks. On Tuesday, Heitshusen filed an age and gender discrimination lawsuit against WHO-TV’s parent company, Nexstar Media Group, Inc., which calls itself “America’s largest local TV and media company,” with 199 stations.
