Purple Heart veteran and his family got a home without a mortgage



LAND O ‘LAKES, Florida – The Purple Heart veteran and his family now have a whole new place to call home without a mortgage.

US Army Sergeant Javier Torres saw his new home for the first time on Wednesday.

Torres, his wife Stephanie and their three young daughters move from a two-bedroom apartment to a four-bedroom home in Land O’Lakes.

“It’s amazing,” Stephanie said. “We came from a small apartment with one bathroom. And we are all girls. “

Torres is a Purple Heart veteran who was injured while serving in Afghanistan. He remembered the day his column was attacked.

“I got out of the car. I was shot once, ”Torres said in an interview at his new home. “I went back and got shot again – I wasn’t sure what happened.”

When he recovered and started a family, Torres contacted Operation Finally Home, which helps injured veterans get into the house without a mortgage.

Builder Pulte Group collaborated with them through their Built To Honor Program… They built a new home and even furnished it for the family as a surprise.

“We are honored to partner and pay tribute to our veterans,” said West Florida Division President Sean Strickler.

Torres and his family held back tears as they toured the house together on Wednesday after the house’s consecration ceremony.

Torres no longer has the burden of rent or mortgage, and now has a new mission: to take care of his family in their new life together.

“It looks like a dream come true,” Torres said. “Beyond the Realization of Dreams.”
