Phoenix Rising has sent forward Seiya Adekoya on loan to OKC Energy’s USL Championship Eastern Conference, the club said on Friday.
He goes to PRFC, left-back Declan Wynn, who was also loaned by OKC on July 1.
However, Phoenix Rising reserves the right to withdraw Adekoya from rental at any time during this season.
The 25-year-old striker has replaced Phoenix just four times in the 2021 USL Championship, for a total of 53 minutes on the pitch.
And after scoring a goal in the preseason against Colorado Springs Switchbacks and Tucson, Adekoya was unable to score his first goal with Rost in a regular season match.
With players like striker Rufat Dadashov and MLS-hired David Egbo (Vancouver Whitecaps), two number 9 strikers along with PRFC captain Solomon Asante and two-time defending league MVP Santi Moar and Prince Saidy, playing time should have been shortened. Few and rare for Adekoya, as Phoenix hopes to win their second regular season title in three years.
“Seyi is a very, very good player, very talented, we like him,” said manager Rick Schanz. Sports Saturday in Arizona… “Right now we have seven players, and we usually only have five or six.
“And instead of Seiyi just practicing every day and getting frustrated that he doesn’t have enough minutes, this is an opportunity for him to play games and continue to develop his professional skills, and for us to follow him. “
Rising still has the option of picking a striker for its second year, so he could still be on the PRFC roster for the 2022 season after signing with the club back in April.
“I think we still have an option for him next year, so hopefully he’s doing well and then we can make a decision on how we want to move forward,” Shantz said.
“I sat down with him and said, ‘Hey, this is an opportunity. You can stay here and practice and not play a lot, or you can go somewhere where they really want you and I think you will be an influential player for them. ” And we don’t have to play them, so it’s good. “
