The Spain national team player will travel to Italy in search of extra minutes and to help pave the way for the superstar’s arrival.
Real Madrid right-back lvaro Odriozola appears to be on loan to Fiorentina as Los Blancos switch rosters awaiting the arrival of Kilian Mbappé at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Paris Saint-Germain Mbappe star looks set to trade Ligue 1 for La Liga despite Parc des Princes outfit discarding a € 160 million (£ 137 million / $ 188 million) offer from its European competitors.
Now Madrid are trying to make room on their squad and in the bag for the France player, and Spain’s Odriozola is now on camera to help pave the way.
Where is Odriozola going?
The 25-year-old, who is part of the La Roja national football team of 2018 in Russia, first joined Madrid in the summer of that year, making an impression on Real Sociedad, but his chances were limited in the capital.
Over the past three seasons, he has played just 31 La Liga appearances for Los Blancos, and three more for Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga during an unsuccessful loan.
The move to Fiorentina, which has persistently pursued him ahead of Serie A rivals Inter and Milan, now seems most likely as Odriozola is about to discuss the matter with coach Carlo Ancelotti.
Why should Odriozola move on?
Against the backdrop of a transfer window that exposed their financial difficulties – albeit not to the same extent as rivals Barcelona, Madrid took a few steps in the market, and only David Alaba was their only newcomer.
But now they’ve bitten the bullet and put their bets on Mbappa, and Los Blancos is potentially viewing the World Cup winner as the heir to the throne of the best player in world football.
Although the squads are limited to 25 players – and some, like Gareth Bale, find it difficult to move on – they had to make room for any capture, and now Odriozola is the man to give way.
The broader picture
Thanks to the Parc des Princes deal, which will last until 2022, and the clear rejection of its renewal, coupled with the stated desire to move to Madrid, PSG may end up cash in on Mbappe.
Just weeks after Lionel Messi became a free agent, after Lionel Messi became one of the most formidable triplets in front of football, the Ligue 1 team will be poised to lose, possibly their flagship star.
Mbappe’s departure – despite the temptation to play alongside one of his idols – may well unleash a decisive reshuffle in PSG’s own squad in the final days of the transfer window.
