NY Liberty locker room gets a new design for women

The New York Liberty has unveiled the completed design refurbishment of its 6,000-room dressing room and lounge at the Barclays Center.

The ultra-modern complex was designed and completed by a team of women from Shawmut Design and Construction and Generator Studios with the comfort and preferences of women in mind.

Liberty is hosting its first home games this year at the Barclays Center, and the new court is just steps from the court. The completely redesigned space includes new lockers, a living room for players, new operating systems, as well as an elegant shower and bathroom with increased space for dressing and makeup mirrors.

“A group of world-class athletes deserve a world-class seat, and that’s exactly what Shawmut and Generator Studios have created with this new locker room,” said New York Liberty CEO Keya Clark. “Liberty remains committed to raising the spirits of women in all areas of the company, and this renewal project is no different.”

“Working with Generator Studios on a collaboration between design and construction, we are proud to assemble a team of women-led designers and builders for the New York Liberty,” said David Margolius, executive vice president of Shawmut Design and Construction in the New York City area.

“Our commitment to diversity, fairness and inclusion in our business has enabled us to do this, not to mention the sheer talent of these team members. This is truly a project created by women for women – and in an industry where women make up less than 10%, we are especially proud of it. In addition to this, we have fulfilled our obligations to 100% external subcontractors of WMBE (Women and Minority Owned Enterprises). ”

Humanscale is another renowned partner chosen to ensure that the new build will support health, wellness and movement. The leader in ergonomic furniture provided carefully selected products for the new changing room and staff area to create a functional and well-designed space.

“Humanscale and NY Liberty share similar values of excellence, well-being and inclusiveness, making this partnership an ideal partner. All our products are designed to ensure that everyone – and everything – fully supported. We’re delighted that our iconic Liberty chair will play a small part in the team’s hopefully winning season, ”said Lina Jain, director of marketing for Humanscale.
