Construction will begin at Northeast High School, ISD’s new Austin campus in the Mueller area, after the county reaches a decision with the city on a real estate deal.
The campus was funded under the 2017 bond program. The district initially worked with the city and Mueller’s main developer, Cattellus, on a plan for a 10-acre site in the northeastern district.
However, the district struggled to negotiate a deal, which caused the start of construction to be delayed.
On August 25, the county sent an email to local parents informing them that a solution had been found.
While negotiations on the deal are still ongoing, the lease with the city will allow the area to move forward, according to the email.
This move allowed contractors to start work on the site in early August.
The county hopes to close a final deal by early 2022. The update means the campus will open in the fall of 2023.
The $ 60.96 million campus was originally slated to open in the fall of 2022.
The school will serve 800 students.
AISD will host a virtual community meeting on September 21 to provide additional information about the project, including what to expect during construction.
