Milan signs Chelsea defender Tomori after loan

MILAN (AP) – Milan have exercised their right to sign Chelsea’s Fikayo Tomori after loaning an Italian defender in the second half of the season.

The Serie A club paid a declared royalty of at least $ 33 million for 23-year-old Tomori, who moved to Milan in January and helped the team secure a place in the Champions League by finishing second.

Tomori, who played 22 games and scored one goal for AC Milan, has been signed before June 2025, the club said Thursday.

Tomori was born in Canada to a Nigerian family, but represents England. He spent his youth career at Chelsea but also rented out at Brighton, Halle and Derby.

He was hardly used by former Blues manager Frank Lampard, who was fired at the end of January and replaced by Thomas Tuchel.

“Since the day I arrived in Milan, I have been welcomed with open arms and now I am here to stay,” Tomori said on Instagram. “Can’t wait to see all of you in San Siro anytime soon.”
