Matthew Pollizi: recipient of the Purple Heart, family-owned donated without mortgage home in Garner

Garner, North Carolina (WTVD) – A local Marine veteran and his family received a lifelong gift Thursday from an organization that specializes in providing for military families.

ABC11 was first introduced Matthew Polizzi when it was announced in December 2020 his family will receive the next new House of Heroes. On Thursday, the family saw their new home for the first time.

It is not every day that skydivers give the keys to a new home.

But on Thursday, the Polizzi family was in for a lot of surprises, the biggest of which was a new home.

“It’s kind of surreal when someone gets a house for something. It’s incredible; it would be great to bring our things here, it’s just incredible, ”said Polizzi from his new home.

Polizzi is a retired Marine who served four times for 14 years and received a Purple Heart due to his injury in Afghanistan.

“It’s a tough life. I spent years in the infantry as a drill instructor and it really takes a toll on them, to be honest, all the deployments and the time you’re away, but now it’s good when I’m retired, going back to my family. And now we have a house instead of moving them, ”he explained.

All this became possible thanks to Operation Return Home.

“You choose a builder, you choose a family, you get a donated plot, and the Mattami houses agreed that this is their second home under the Mattami houses, they agreed to participate in this program, and when the other sellers found out that Mattami was going to do this, they stepped up. to make it happen, “said the president of Operation Coming Home Us Veteran Corp.

Operation: Coming Home (OCH) is a partnership between members of the United States Veterans Corps (USVC), the Raleigh Wake County Homebuilders Association (HBA), and various non-profit and commercial organizations. A veteran and non-veteran construction team honored the victims of severely wounded veterans of the recent wars in the Middle East by building houses for them free of charge.

Ladner said caring for veterans like Matthew and his family is very exciting.

“When they see special objects, walk around the room and even see that we have a surprise for the dogs, they will be emotional,” he explained.

This is hero house number 23. Operation Homecoming has been running since 2008 and they say they can’t wait to make hero house number 24.
