Man found incompetent to stand trial for attempted kidnapping of North Ridgeville real estate agent

ELIRIA, OH (WOIO) – A 46-year-old man was found unable to stand trial for attempting to kidnap a real estate agent in North Ridgeville last August.

David Helton will now receive mental health treatment in a secure facility.

Helton’s co-accused, 38-year-old Michael Evans, pleaded guilty in April and was sentenced to two years in prison.

A real estate agent was waiting to show her home on Homecrest Drive when men drove up to her and asked for a business card.

Then they grabbed her arm and tried to drag her into their SUV.

She fought and managed to break free.

North Ridgeville police said they then locked themselves in the car and called emergency services.

Officers arrested both men a few days later.
