The new kindergarten and preschool could borrow extra money from the city, while another local business wants funding from the same fund.

The Parsons Commission will consider two loan requests at its next meeting on Tuesday. The commission meets on Tuesday, not Monday, because city offices will be closed on Monday for the Fourth of July holiday.

The Commission has already approved a $ 60,000 loan to Kandy Rushing, owner of Grow at Eden LLC, 1503 22000 Road, under a revolving credit program. It is now demanding an additional $ 30,000 due to understated construction costs, Jim Zaleski, director of economic development, said during a working session on Thursday. Rushing and her husband Kyler bought an empty building at the southeast corner of US 59 and 22000 Streets. They remodeled the building and added about 2,000 square feet to double the floor space. Rushings also did landscaping.

“This is very impressive,” Zaleski said.

He said Grow at Eden is now 50% full and there is a waiting list for a certain age. In June, Rushing said the institution would be licensed for 60 children, but initially there will be no more than 52 children.

The City’s Revolving Loan Program was established with a grant from the USDA and related funds in 2005. The program received additional funding from the USDA and the city in 2007 and 2009, creating a base of approximately $ 380,000. As the money is lent to businesses to finance the deficit, it is returned to the fund. Currently, $ 168,000 has been disbursed and $ 147,500 remains. The entire fund was renewed at least once. The city lost about $ 60,000 due to non-repayment of loans under the program.

Loans are provided at an interest rate of 4.25% set by the USDA. Since loan rates have been low in recent years, the program has received little use, but now the city has two applications at once.

Doug and Brenda Billingsley are asking for a $ 20,000 loan so they can buy the building they lease for their business, PureLife Nutrition & Well-Being, 1301 Main. Billingslys has been running their business in the former Casey building since early 2020. Prior to this, the business was located at 1807 Main. PureLife sells meal replacement shakes, vitamin energy teas, and nutritional supplements.

“I’ve heard a lot of good things about PureLife, so it’s good,” Commissioner Kevin Cruz said Thursday.

In other cases, commissioners will consider:

– Approval of the payment of US $ 3,045.20 to Burns & McDonnell Engineering for the construction of the taxiway interconnection service at Parsons Three City Airport.
