Judge Suspends Colored Farmer Loan Forgiveness Program

MILWAWKIE (AP) – A federal judge has suspended a loan forgiveness program for colored farmers in response to a lawsuit alleging the program discriminates against white farmers. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that US District Judge William Griesbach in Milwaukee issued a temporary restraining order on Thursday suspending President Joe Biden’s administration’s program for disadvantaged farmers and ranchers. The program pays out up to 120% of direct or guaranteed agricultural loan balances for Blacks, American Indians, Hispanics, Asian Americans, or Pacific Islanders. The conservative law firm Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty filed a lawsuit in April on behalf of 12 farmers in Wisconsin, Minnesota. South Dakota, Missouri, Iowa, Arkansas, Oregon and Kentucky.
