It will also be the first experience for Detroit-based Jeremy Simpson, 15, to attend his first live golf match.

“I just wanted to bring my son here, introduce him and thrill this game,” said Alex Simpson II, Jeremiah’s father.

The game that Alex Simpson presented, according to his father. All three walked out on Monday day two of John Shippen’s invitation presented by Rocket Mortgage at Detroit’s Historic Golf Club. The national event invites the best black male and female amateur and professional golfers to compete. The namesake of the event was the first American golf professional and the first black golf professional.

“My opinion is not only for John Shippen, but for all the other great people who came after you know Teddy Rose, even Joe Louis and you know all these guys. It’s an amazing opportunity to be here and play in front of so many people who support me, ”said Detroiter Joseph Hooks, a golfer who competed in Monday’s John Shippen Invitational.

Hooks says events such as showcasing black golfers are very important and is teaching the new generation that representation matters in sports. The Simpson family hopes this will be the result of this experience.

“Essential for playing any game, any sport that can be reached out and touched by everyone in the community,” said Alex Simpson Sr.
