Huntington Beach: Real estate professional killed, three injured in house shooting following family dispute over property

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA (KABC). Authorities said the shooting at a home in Huntington Beach killed a real estate specialist and injured three others.

According to the Huntington Beach Police Department, the incident occurred Saturday morning in the area south of Edinger Avenue, between Bolsa Chica and Fantasia Lane.

An agency spokesman said officers reacted to the scene and rescued four people from the front and back yards of the house.

They were all taken to hospital with gunshot wounds. The man did not survive the injuries, but the other three are expected to recover. The police believe that the shooter may be among the hospitalized.

“What we know is an ongoing family dispute over property here, an apartment building. Some real estate specialists came in today to inspect the property when the shooting occurred, ”said Julian Harvey of the police department.

Neighbors say that after the death of the elderly man who owned the house, the son who lived with him got into a bitter dispute with his siblings over property.

“I spoke to him, but I didn’t know what was going on in the situation,” Don Pruett said. “Obviously, there were a lot of problems with what we now do with the house.”

Neighbors are saddened that the dispute over property ended in tragedy.

“Someone wanted to sell, someone wanted to keep the house, and this is not the way to solve this problem,” added Pruett.

None of the victims have been identified.

The officers established a perimeter in the area, evacuated several nearby houses and called in a special forces team to the site, a spokesman said. In a tweet, the police asked the public to avoid the area.
