Houston Dynamo Announces New Owner Of New York Developer

The New York-based developer has become the new majority owner of his own football clubs Dynamo and Dash in Houston, and players seem to be delighted with the decision.

Center-back Tim Parker tweeted, “There are happy times ahead” in response to the team’s message that Ted Segal acquisition of a controlling stake in the club. Segal is the founder and president of the EJS Group, a real estate development and finance company that invests directly in real estate in the United States.

According to Major League Soccer, in addition to controlling the teams, Segal also has lease rights to the BBVA stadium.

Former Houston Rockets star James Harden, former professional boxer Oscar de la Hoya, Ben Gill and Gabrielle Brener will retain minority stakes in the club.

Before any major recruitment efforts, Segal will focus on serving on the MLS Board of Governors.

“For a lifelong soccer player, the opportunity to invest in professional football in Houston — a dynamic, diverse and growing city with such a legendary professional sports history — is truly exciting,” Segal said. “The interest and passion for football in Houston is evident. Dynamo and Dash have incredibly dedicated fans who support the championship clubs. “

Segal also mentioned the possibility that the city will host the 2026 FIFA World Cup, calling Houston a “popular destination.”
