In March 2020, the federal government required state-insured mortgages (GSEs) to offer deferred mortgage payments to borrowers affected by COVID-19. The programs were supposed to last six months with the right to renew for another six months. The program allowed borrowers who had deposited taxes and insurance to defer those amounts as well.
