(MURFREESBORO) FirstBank mortgage banker Brandon Burks has provided $ 12,000 scholarships to families in the Murfreesboro area under the FirstBank Mortgage Scholarship Program 2020.

A total of 160 families in Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky and Tennessee have received US $ 1,000 scholarships, totaling US $ 160,000 awarded through this year’s Next Generation Scholarship.

All FirstBank Mortgage customers who closed their mortgage in 2020 were automatically eligible for a $ 1,000 scholarship for a child, stepson, foster child, or foster child living at home. The recipients this year were selected by local mortgage bankers FirstBank, who named one name for every 50 closed loans.

“Through the Next Generation Mortgage Scholarship Program, we are able to financially support student families looking to take the next step in their education,” said Weeb Evans, President of FirstBank Ventures, which includes FirstBank Mortgage. “We have always strived to serve our community and help others achieve their financial and educational goals, and this scholarship is an important part of investing in the future leaders of our community.”

The 2020 Murfreesboro winners are Elena Alvarez, Jeremy Kristol, Taneisha Gillard, John Petrel, Kyle Cornett, Hayley Bishop, Christy Sigler, James Turner, Darrick Cleaves, Keylonzo Terrell, Daniel Gammon and Troy Rose.

“We recognize that 2020 has been a challenging year for students as they transitioned to virtual learning and lost valuable classroom time,” said Lee Townsend, director of retail mortgage lending at FirstBank Mortgage. “At FirstBank, we strive to take our work in society beyond financial services, prioritizing investing in education for future generations, and we want to continue to help students achieve their educational goals.

“Vice Chairman Jim Ayers built FirstBank on helping people become better people, and we are proud of the impact that the Next Generation Mortgage Scholarship Program has had on our community, especially this year,” he said.

This year’s scholarship program is open to qualified FirstBank Mortgage clients in Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky and Tennessee who will close their mortgages between January 1 and December 31, 2021. These clients will be included in next year’s draw.
