2021 Rocket Mortgage Classic: Field

156 Players | Top 65 and ties make a bet
First jersey: Thursday 1st July
Reigning Champion: Bryson DeShambeau

Another big event, another WGC, Olympics and FedEx Cup playoffs. This is the next two months at PGA TOUR. Amazingly, not every player plays in all tournaments. And the 2021 Rocket Mortgage Classic gets an extra headache as many of Europe’s top talent compete in Ireland this week. It will be worse for the John Deere Classic next week when a group of Americans take to the Scottish Open to prepare for the British Open.

So reigning champions Bryson DeShambeau, Hideki Matsuyama, Webb Simpson and Patrick Reed topped 156th in Detroit this week. Will Zalatoris, Max Homa, Phil Mickelson, Joaquin Niemann, Garrick Higgo, Jason Cocrack, Gary Woodland, Jason Day, Ricky Fowler, Bubba Watson and Charlie Hoffman make up the next level of contender. All in all, there are only 10 players in the top 50 of the world golf rankings.

Rocket mortgage 2021: notes

Now that some of the Pete Dye plot is complete, we move on to the Donald Ross phase. Ross courses include:

  • Detroit Golf Club (Rocket Mortgage)
  • Sedgefield SS (Wyndham Championship)
  • East Lake GC (Championship TOUR)

The Rocket Mortgage Classic is an amalgamation of both courses at the Detroit Golf Club. The route was changed for the tournament, including using the hole from the South Field. The first hole of the South Course will function as the third hole of the tournament and will be played from the first tee-hole of the North Course. Meanwhile, the usual eighth and ninth holes will be # 1 and # 2 in the tournament.

One of the most generous courses on the TOUR off-tee, the course has covered over 50% of its 300-yard passes at the Detroit Golf Club, while revealing 65% of short grass. Unsurprisingly, this is where Bryson tried out the strategy that resulted in him raising the cleverly named US Open Trophy at the end of 2020. Bryson became the first PGA TOUR winner to lead the field in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee (+6.7) and Strokes Gained. : Put (+7.8) in the ShotLink era. And yes, Bryson also led the way (351 yards).

It’s unclear right now if this was due to tuning or if the entire pitch was rolled out at the same time, but Strokes Gained Off-The-Tee had a lot of weight last year compared to the 2019 inaugural event. 16 leaders in SG: OTT, 15 dropped out, and all but Bubba Watson (MC) and Kevin Chappell (T62) finished in the top 30. Nine of these players have lost strikes on the pitch as they approached.

– Statistics from National Fantasy Golf Club

Is this a one-year deviation? We won’t know about this until we see the event this year. But this is an interesting path. DraftKings or find someone who bets on sleepers, since most, myself included, are always overweight. This week I made them relatively even when weighed them.

Despite being a total of 7,370 yards, the Detroit Golf Club is actually much shorter. I say every year that the Riviera has hidden distance due to height and many yards saved on one par 4 and par 5, but DGC is kind of the opposite. There are four par 4s ranging in size from 450 to 500 yards, but since the average travel distance is about 300 yards (third in TOUR), these holes don’t really play that long. Add to that three of the four par 5s that can’t defend themselves against the eagles, and you have an average approach distribution that recalls Travelers from last week, a course that went just over 6,800 yards. Most sets will come from 175 yards and at this time for scoring. For three rounds a year ago, Matthew Wolf collected a total of 25 birds + eagles. This is pretty outrageous.

Simpler fields can allow more players to compete to win. There’s a reason the US Open leaderboard is a roster of elite names, while Byron Nelson is an event that no one can beat K.H. Lee. So using National Fantasy Golf Club, and sorting by “Simple ratio to par” for the last 24 rounds, you will find …

Choosing the classic mortgage system of 2021

Will Zalatoris

Just after performing at the US Open two weeks ago, Zalatoris is finally returning to his most avian roots on the renowned Korn Ferry Circuit. It would be one thing if his core skills went down during his recent cold streak (he missed two of the last five punches), but it really isn’t. He persisted as an elite racer, irons hit the ground, but by no means bad. As with many, this is all terribly cobbled together and staged. Hopefully, on such a simple course with an average GIR of 73%, chipping will not be too necessary, and let’s pray that it takes a week.

Sepp Straka

Austria has just moved away from the euro, so it’s time for some positive news on the Bavarian border. After three consecutive penalties, Straka had quietly climbed to T10 by the end of Sunday in Connecticut, finishing fourth in SG: Ball Striking in a week. This is the perfect time to find form before returning to the course where he placed the T8 and T11 in two starts.
