The loans are available through a program funded by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development Community Development Block Grant and are available from August 1 to August 27.
The Homeowner Repair program offers a deferred loan for low and middle income homeowners. The loan allows homeowners to use funds for projects such as a new roof, a new stove, electrical panel retrofits, and repairs to leaking pipes or water and sewer lines.
This program is only available to homeowners residing within La Porte’s corporate boundaries. Rehabilitation works will be carried out in the summer / fall of 2022, subject to the availability of funding and the absence of a threat to public health (for example, coronavirus).
The program provides loans up to USD 23,000 at 0% per annum. Homeowners do not make monthly payments. The gross annual income of all family members of four must be less than $ 48,800. The loan is refunded if the home is sold or transferred, or when the home is no longer the primary residence within seven years after the completion of the renovation.
Eligibility is determined by the gross annual income of all family members. Other eligibility requirements include asset limitation, adequate home equity, stable monthly income, and location in the target area. If the repair budget exceeds $ 23,000, the City of LaPorte cannot help the homeowner.
If the applicant has previously participated in this program, further participation in the program will not be approved.
