The recently opened electric car company Lucid has opened a new showroom on 2 Ninth Avenue.

The luxury car company has leased 3,200 cars to open its first studio in New York and its eighth studio, Lucid, which opened last year.

“The opening of Lucid Studio in New York, one of the most vibrant cities in the world, allows us to showcase how Lucid Air and its innovative technologies perfectly complement the fast pace and sophisticated taste of the Big Apple,” said Peter Rawlinson, CEO and CTO, Lucid Motors. “This is also the perfect time to open our first Lucid Studio in New York, as we will dramatically expand a city that is returning to shape, delivering the world’s finest experiences to residents and travelers alike.”

The Lucid design team worked with architecture firm Marmol Radziner to create an inviting physical environment where customers can explore options for Lucid Air’s full line of luxury high-performance electric vehicles.

KPFF Consulting Engineers was also part of the development team. “We are thrilled to be part of this team and to help bring the Lucid line of electric vehicles to customers in one of New York’s busiest neighborhoods,” said Spiro Kremmidas, PE, SE, New York City Director of KPFF. “This project will repurpose a historic Manhattan building for a new and exciting future.”

Built in 1913, the 2 Ninth Avenue Hotel is a famous former warehouse in the historic Hansevoort Market. The building, owned by William Gottlieb Real Estate, was formerly the Bagatelle restaurant, which was closed during the pandemic.

The new space includes a car dealership, semi-private areas for communication between dealers and customers, information and media screens, and shop window modifications. Virtual reality blends the physical and virtual worlds, showcasing flawless customization of everything from interior finishes and materials to exterior color.

Reflecting the luxurious, personalized Studio experience online for those who prefer to shop from home, customers can also take advantage of Lucid Studio Live, a cloud-based configuration solution that allows customers to virtually interact with their vehicle while a Lucid representative guides them through key features.

As part of its role in the development team, KPFF assessed the existing floor to ensure it could withstand the loads of the vehicles presented.

These include the Lucid Air Pure and touring cars, which start at $ 77,000 and qualify for federal electric vehicle performance and efficiency tax credits.

Manhattan Lucid Studio is the latest of 11 new ones to open across North America by the end of 2021. Other locations will include Chicago, San Francisco, Phoenix, Long Island, Boston, Vancouver, San Diego, and the DC metro. In total, this year there are 20 studios and service locations.
