Federal prosecutors say the Downers Grove couple bought out “at least $ 2.5 million” from several mortgage lenders, forged loan documents and hired buyers who were ineligible for loans.
According to court records, 45-year-old Marco Lurigio and 39-year-old Sandy Lurigio are accused of using this scheme from 2011 to 2014.
Prosecutors said the couple used pseudonyms and several different companies to help new recruits buy property in the South Side of Chicago, even though they knew the people they were hiring were not eligible for loans.
In some cases, Lurigios told creditors that the buyers were employees, although they were not, according to authorities.
The indictment lists at least 11 properties for which Lurigios is accused of fraudulently obtaining loans.
If convicted, they face up to 30 years in prison.
