Notes: Tim O’Neill earned a spot on the course by winning The John Shippen for Black golfers on Monday at Detroit Golf Club. O’Neill, 48, will begin his second regular PGA tour since 2007 at Mayakoba. … Only two of the top 10 in the world are on the field, reigning champions Bryson DeShambeau and Patrick Reed, as well as four of the top 20 in the world. … Harris English became the first player to win twice this year. He is the third player to win the PGA Tour twice this season. Patrick Cantley and DeShambeau won their other competitions last fall. … Phil Mickelson plays for the first time. He will play in both of the new summer tournaments, having traveled to Minnesota two years ago. … Will Zalatoris is ranked 29th in the world rankings and will not participate in the PGA Tour postseason without a win because he is not a full-fledged competitor. … There are 12 players on the field who are planning to compete in the Tokyo Olympics, including DeShambo, Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama and Rory Sabbatini from Slovakia.
