Tom Hudson, co-founder of Middleton Advisors in the UK, specializes in dwellings found in Downton Abbey – significant estates, historic homes and large country houses.

As the head of Middleton, which he founded 13 years ago, Mr. Hudson is like a specialized real estate concierge for his clients who accompanies them every step of the way. He provides strategic advice throughout the real estate search and purchase process – finding and shortlisting properties, agreeing on the best deals according to the property value in the area, and liaising with all relevant parties, from lawyers to surveyors and construction crews, to ensure a smooth work. journey from start to finish.

“Some of our clients ask us to buy larger homes and sports properties in much wider geographic regions. These searches require different data and knowledge than our London and country offices, “said 46-year-old Mr. Hudson.” With over 20 years of experience in the field, Mark Parkinson, co-founder of Middleton Advisors, and I are available … advise clients on all real estate matters, from purchasing to helping build local teams and providing long-term strategic advice. ”

We recently contacted a country house connoisseur from Oxfordshire, England to find out who buys these pastoral palaces and what their requirements are.

Mansion Global: What is Middleton Advisors known for?

Tom Hudson: We pride ourselves on discretion and trust. Our relationship confirms this, as most of our business is related to loyal customers and referrals. This network is built, maintained and protected because we never underestimate the value of travel for the client. Each of our consultants strives to provide clients with the best advice based on their unrivaled knowledge and experience in the market.

MG: What do you like most about your job?

TH: I was fortunate enough to work for wonderful people who inevitably worked incredibly hard to then hand their money over to me so I could go out and buy a property. This is a great privilege.

MG: What are people looking for in a luxury country house?

TH: Architecture, furnishings and appearance remain the three most important things when it comes to buying a country house or estate. Buyers often have their own micro-needs, such as access to friends and family, but in general, the type of architecture they want, the furnishings of the home itself, and its appearance tend to be top priorities.

MG:Who is buying now?

TH: We act on behalf of international clients looking to acquire significant homes in London or the countryside, and advise our old clients on all aspects of their property requirements. Our client list has always been varied, but it seems that we are currently working with a large number of Americans, Middle Easterners and Europeans.

MG: What areas of the UK are the most popular for the construction of country houses?

TH: For two hours, London remains the primary country home search area. When it comes to the estate, people often travel much further. The home counties (the counties of England surrounding London such as Buckinghamshire, Surrey and Hertfordshire) remain the most popular for overseas buyers, as access to London and the airports is often of paramount importance.

MG: Where did the luxury country house market grow?

TH: This sector of the market has never really fallen when it comes to large country houses and estates. The supply of good property is always very limited and the demand in any market tends to exceed this supply.

MG: What are the prospects for the future?

TH: At this point, the priority list is to place more emphasis on communication and privacy. Pedestrian paths and nearby neighbors are considered a bigger problem than before, and not only road connectivity, but also mobile networks are becoming more important. This can usually be achieved with teams known to us who can install good IT solutions, but this remains a key requirement for most of our customers.

MG: What do you mean by luxury?

TH: Confidentiality.

MG: What will your dream house be like?

TH: While there are many beautiful old houses that I would like to buy, my dream has always been to build an amazing modern home, perhaps somewhere in a picturesque location overlooking the sea.
