Birmingham City are reportedly close to closing a loan deal for Chelsea academy player Juan Familia-Castillo.
Castillo was considered a promising player at Cobham, joining Chelsea in 2016.
According to Birmingham LiveThe 21-year-old is set to join the Birmingham Blues on loan for the entire season.
Castillo joined Chelsea from Ajax in 2016 and played regularly with the club’s youth team for three years until he returned to Holland in 2019 as part of a loan deal with Jong Ajax.
From here, Castillo completed the move on loan to Arizona Alkamaar and made one senior team appearance for Chong Arizona.
Last season, the Netherlands U20 team entered Eredewis Stadium with ADO Den Haag, having played 16 times for the Dutch team.
With Chelsea currently hiring three left-backs from the first team, Castillo’s chances in and around Thomas Tuchel will be limited, so a loan move in England would be the perfect platform to see what the broad player is capable of.
Birmingham manager Lee Boyer has been trusted by Chelsea youth in the past, bringing Conor Gallagher and Dutch left-back Jan Maatsen to Charlton in the last couple of seasons before the 44-year-old moved to Birmingham.
It is understandable that Chelsea have trusted the manager to develop their academy players, as both Gallagher and Maatsen had successful stories at the Addix under Boyer.
Expect this deal to be completed quickly, without any complications, as this move suits all parties.
