BOSTON CBT has announced the recruitment of a new director, Richard (Rick) Kuhn, AIA. Kuhn brings to the firm over three decades of design experience that spans a wide range of building typologies across a variety of sectors, including higher education, life sciences, culture, civil and commercial office markets.

As the new director of CBT, Kuhn will expand CBT’s design business and draw on his already rich client base in many of his practice areas. His passion and understanding of building design as an evolving holistic process will continue to drive his quest to create beautiful and inspiring spaces that have a transformative impact on the communities in which he works. He brings great value to the firm as an in-demand design mentor who will work to enhance the design culture in the professional CBT team.

Prior to joining CBT, Kuhn served as Director and Design Director at Perkins + Will in Boston, where he oversaw the development of many large projects ranging from public libraries and university campus centers to dormitories and medical centers. Prior to that, he was Design Director and Lead Designer for the award-winning Freelon Group (which joined Perkins + Will in 2014). Throughout his career, Kuhn has also donated his talents to firms across the country, working on projects across all building typologies both nationally and internationally, including the Middle East and Asia, with a focus on helping his clients over the past decade. in achieving the highest quality design. education, culture and citizenship.

Kuhn’s work has been widely published throughout his career and has won over 50 AIA design awards in recognition of his ability to create and inspire thoughtful, innovative and sustainable design solutions to his clients. He received his BA in Architecture from the University of Florida and an MA in Architecture from Harvard Graduate School of Design. Kuhn is a Licensed Architect in several states, NCARB Certified, and a Fellow of the Boston Society of Architects.
