Scotland midfielder Billy Gilmore is in talks with Chelsea for a loan next season.
Gilmore, 20, shone in Scotland’s Euro 2020 draw against England and would have played a 3-1 defeat to Croatia if he hadn’t tested positive for the coronavirus.
The former Rangers youth made 11 appearances in the Blues last season but only started three league appearances.
Gilmore believes that his career will develop faster if he plays regularly, but knows that this will mean leaving Chelsea.
The playmaker was an unused substitute in the FA Cup and Champions League final. Thomas Tuchel’s side lost to Leicester City domestically, but beat Manchester City in Portugal to win the biggest club prize in European football.
Gilmore prefers to stay in the English Premier League, although if the Rangers make it through two qualifying rounds and make it to the Champions League group stage it could be a bargaining chip for a return to Scotland.
The newly nominated Norwich City are also interested in Gilmore, who signed a four-year deal with Chelsea in 2019.
