Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich said on Tuesday that they have loaned New Zealand midfielder Sarprit Singh to second-tier Jan Regensburg for the upcoming season.

In early 2019-2020, the 22-year-old All Whites attacking midfielder burst into Bayern’s squad from the reserve, appearing twice in the German top flight.

He was loaned to second tier Nuremberg last season, returning mid-campaign after just five starts and has been playing for Bayern’s reserve in the third division since February.

The Auckland native Singh was the first Indian-born player to play in the Bundesliga. He said he was looking forward to calling the second echelon of Germany.

“It’s a very difficult league,” he told the Regensburg website, “where anyone can beat anyone.”

The attacking midfielder, who has played six appearances for New Zealand, sees the loan as “the best next step in my career” and wants to be the crowd favorite in Regensburg.

“I love attacking, possessing the ball and entertaining the fans.

“I want to play as much as possible and help the team with goals and assists.”
