Japhet Tanganga fared well in today’s 2-2 friendly against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. However, there is a chance we will see him play for the last time for Spurs this season. According to Charlie Ecclesher in Athletic Transfer Tracker, Tottenham Hotspur accepted an offer from Galatasaray to provide a debt for the season to pay for Japhet’s services.
There was a lot of buzz about this loan for about a week or so, but we haven’t written about it yet because the sources are in the Turkish sports media, which is notoriously unreliable. However, if Eccleshare reports it, it is almost certain.
The only problem is it might not be the move he wants! You can’t blame him – he’s pretty close to the main team right now and it looks like he would like to stay and fight for his spot. Ecklesher says he will only consider this if it’s clear enough that he won’t have many minutes this season and would prefer a loan to another Premier League club instead of heading to Turkey. That makes sense to me too, and it seems odd that he didn’t get enough rotation minutes in the back line of the spurs, although that could depend on what happens if anything happens to Serge Aurier and Davinson Sanchez.
In the meantime, we will track this. This is by no means a settled deal, and we’ll get a better picture in a couple of weeks.
