Lucas Torreira has joined Fiorentina from Arsenal on loan for the season.
The midfielder arrived for treatment on Tuesday and agreed to an initial credit change, with the Serie A club having the option to buy Torreira for £ 12.8m at the end of the season.
The Uruguayan player, currently not in the plans of Mikel Arteta, has decided to return to Italy, joining Arsenal from Sampdoria in 2018. Eintracht Frankfurt also proposed to the 25-year-old earlier in the transfer window.
Torreira will wear the number 18 shirt for Fiorentina, who finished 13th in the Italian top division last season and started their 2021/22 campaign with a 3-1 defeat to Roma.
He made 89 appearances for the Gunners and scored four goals. The Emirates Stadium midfielder’s contract expires in summer 2023.
The move on loan to Florence follows his successful 2020/21 campaign, where Torreira helped Atletico Madrid Diego Simeone win the La Liga title, playing 26 matches during his time in the Spanish capital.
Torreira follows Joe Willock, David Luis, William Saliba and Matteo Genduzi, who also secured a move from Emirates Stadium this summer.
Meanwhile, Brazilian club Corinthians is in talks with Arsenal on a potential deal. Willian and Crystal Palace are still interested in Eddie Nketia, which the gunner is estimated at 20 million pounds sterling.
