Affordable housing construction emerges in Greater San Jose

SAN JOSE – More than 1,000 affordable homes could be spawned in an area adjacent to a future BART station in a communications-oriented neighborhood east of downtown San José.

An increasingly active developer, Roygbiv Real Estate Development, has begun proposing plans at San Jose City Hall for the first critical component of the project.

The first phase, dubbed Residencias Arianna, will consist of two large residential towers. One will be 12 stories high and the other 10 stories high.

According to plans submitted by Roygbiv Real Estate for the city, Residencias Arrianna should have 430 houses, of which 241 in one building and 189 in another.

430 Phase 1 units will grow at 1298 Tripp Ave. between North 26th Street and Wooster Avenue, near US Highway 101 and McKee Avenue.

The site is also less than half a mile from the future 28th Street / Little Portugal BART station.

“This is a transit oriented project,” said Loida Kirkley, CEO of Roygbiv Real Estate. “This will include affordable housing for very low, low and middle income people.”

Once all three phases of the project are completed, the total development will consist of 1,200 units, according to project designer Kurt Anderson, CEO of Anderson Architects.

Roygbiv Real Estate is actively making plans for at least four other tower projects that will add several hundred more homes in downtown San Jose if built.

Two high-rise buildings have been proposed by Roygbiv next to the existing Diridon train station, while the other two will be built near the future BART station in downtown San Jose, near City Hall.

According to the development proposal for the project near the BART station in Little Portugal, both buildings will be equipped with significant amenities in the first phase.

Shared outdoor areas will be available on the ground floor of each building. Both buildings will have rooftops with meeting areas. Fitness centers are planned in every building.
