ABN Amro offers customers an environmental discount on mortgage interest rates for energy efficient homes.
The Bank will use the European Union Energy Label categorization to assess property sustainability. For houses officially registered in the highest category A, the bank will provide a 0.15% discount on interest payments. Houses registered as properties B receive a 0.1% discount.
“We aim to achieve average energy efficiency A for all residential and commercial real estate that we finance by 2030,” the bank said in a statement. “We want to encourage our customers to make their homes greener, so we offer this green discount as an incentive.”
Existing and new mortgage clients receive a rate cut if they make their homes greener after the start of the fixed rate period and if they register their energy label – assuming it’s A or B – within 24 months.
ABN Amro automatically receives energy tags in advance from the Rijksdienst Voor Ondernemend Nederland (Dutch business agency). If the conditions are met, the bank applies the discount without the need for the client to submit an application.
